Sutor Mantellassi is at Pitti Uomo 90° with a collection inspired by Gio Ponti’s work
The Sutor Mantellassi Spring-Summer 2017 Collection is based on the design that Gio Ponti created for the Hotel Parco Dei Principi in Sorrento in the 1960s, a symbol of proverbial Italian hospitality, and in a broader sense, of that magical time that was the Dolce Vita.
The natural architecture of the Amalfi Coast, with its intense colours and majestic landscape overhanging the sea, perfectly suits Ponti’s design as it respects the surrounding nature and also re-uses some its elements like the blue of the sea and the shape of the landscape.
The design and colour of the majolica tiles designed by the maestro are the main source of inspiration for the shades used by Sutor Mantellassi, which range from blue to red, from green to aquamarine, and from topaz to yellow.
Raffia and reverse leather are the main materials, skilfully combined to create a light summery feel, reminiscent of the Amalfi Coast.
As well as classic models, the range also includes sandals, loafers and driver shoes.
The partnership with Scott Schuman has continued for the Spring-Summer 2017 collection. The sneakers, which enjoyed huge success last season, will be available in the same colours as the rest of the collection.
